Back to School!

Dear Team Tumaini,

As students here in the United States begin to turn their attention to another school year, so do our partners in East Africa. Thanks to your continued investment in Tumaini Tanzania, we are celebrating many exciting milestones as we prepare for the upcoming academic year. I am happy to share just a few of these highlights with you:

1.Tumaini Students Excelling in Secondary School
Our scholars continue to lead their schools. We are especially proud of our youngest students, who completed their first semester in ten of the top fifteen positions of their Form One class at the Sakila Secondary School (out of close to fifty students in total!). Congratulations to David C.M., Glory E.K., Happygod G.M., Tukuzaely P.A., Happyness K.M., Happyness L.K., Eliziada E.N., Faraja W.L., Thomas P.L., and Godlisten P.M.!

2. Tumaini Teachers Use Their Education to Serve Others
We are thrilled to announce that our four Tumaini scholars who graduated from Teacher's College last spring--thanks to Tumaini's investment in them over the past seven years--are now serving in officially-appointed teaching positions at primary schools across Tanzania! These young teachers represent exactly what we hoped Tumaini would make possible: Irene A., Barakaely A., Lucy M., and Neema N. are building on the education you provided them to empower the next generation of Tanzanian students.

3. Tumaini Scholars Thriving at University
Six of our oldest scholars with whom we have partnered for over seven years--Barakaeli T., Antonetta N., Frank N., Martin P., Godlisten K., and Livingstone M.--successfully completed their first year at university! They will be joined by two more scholars, Godlisten N. and Godwin M., who recently graduated from Form Six in the first and third positions, respectively, of their classes. These young adults are training hard so that they may serve their country as doctors (a four-year degree), engineers (a three-year degree), and high school teachers (a three-year degree).

4. Charlotte Latin School Builds Bridges of Hope
We continue to be overwhelmed with gratitude for the Charlotte Latin School community's generous support of Tumaini Tanzania. The Charlotte, NC, school's "Bridges of Hope" initiative wildly surpassed our expectations, as students, teachers, and families representing all grades poured out creativity, energy, and finances to equip students, teachers, and families on the other side of the world. Without Charlotte Latin's partnership, we would not have been able to welcome a new class of twenty students to secondary school this spring and could not send our class of eight students to university this fall. You can learn more about the Charlotte Latin School project, and its incredible success,
here. Special thanks to Page McEachern, Jennie Stuart, John McGinnis, and Adam Windham for their tireless dedication to a community they have never met, but one that appreciates them more than they may ever realize.

5. Renewed Commitments but Rising Costs
As we team up with a growing number of Tanzanian families in the Sakila area, strengthen our partnership with the new Nkoanekoli Secondary School, and equip our oldest students to attend university, our costs are escalating. We are committed to these initiatives because we see their worth in the many lives they are radically changing: Each unit of time and money we invest in Tanzania is multiplied exponentially as Tumaini's partners apply their education to impact their families, their community, and their country. But we need your continued support to sustain this transformative work. Would you please consider making an investment in a Tumaini scholar this month by clicking here? And would you be willing to tell a friend or two about how your contribution is unlocking the potential of students in Tanzania to build up their own communities? As always, because we are completely volunteer-run and because our generous Board has pledged to cover all administrative costs, we assure you that 100% of your donations will directly benefit the families in and around Sakila.

Thank you for helping to ignite hope both in Tanzania and here in the United States. As we often say, Tumaini Tanzania rests on the simple notion of friends helping friends. I remain deeply appreciative of the opportunity to commit our friendship to this exciting, meaningful endeavor.

Asante and Mungu akubariki (Thank you and God bless),

Lide
